LOS ANGELES — Seri terakhir dari film trilogi The Hobbit akan dirilis pada 17 Desember 2014 atau lima bulan mundur dari rencana awal.
The Hobbit: There and Back Again sebelumnya direncanakan akan diputar untuk kali pertama pada Juli 2014 sebagai bagian ketiga atau terakhir dari kisah Hobbit. Bagian pertamanya, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, beredar mulai Desember 2012, dan bagian keduanya, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, diputar di gedung-gedung bioskop mulai Desember 2013.
"Kami sangat gembira menyelesaikan trilogi sebagai hadiah liburan bagi para pencinta film," kata Dan Fellman, kepala distribusi Warner Bros, unit dari Time Warner Inc.
Film The Hobbit pertama merupakan prequel dari epik fantasi karangan JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings. Sutradara Peter Jackson membuat The Lord of the Rings menjadi tiga film, yang semuanya meraih Oscar
